Fanni Lemmermayer - Exclusive knitwear since 1877

The Lemmermayer company is a Viennese family business and has been in existence since 1877. In the 1920s, the company began processing alpaca wool and developed a unique product from it.

Alpaca wool - the fleece of the gods. Alpacas are small camels from the South American Andes and are the suppliers of the highest quality virgin wool. They owe their unique hair, which is hollow inside, to the fact that they are exposed to extremely fluctuating temperatures every day in their natural habitat at high altitude. This gives alpaca wool yarns a genetically predetermined warmth value.

We became aware of Fanni Lemmermayer's knitwear during a visit to the legendary Anatomica store in Paris. The only European store of the Japanese cult label, which stocks a large selection of specialties in addition to its own products and is always wonderfully inspiring.

Here is the "Rengbogn" cardigan, knitted using a purl knitting technique that creates a uniform fabric pattern with stripes on both sides. The open stitches are reminiscent of a grid-like gauze and create a wonderful exchange of warmth.

The term "Rengbogn" stands for rainbow in Austrian dialect and describes the colorful stripe pattern.
